The next is the Root kernel files. After you download it, do not extract it as the ODIN application will use the compressed form of the files.

Now turn your phone off and put it in the download mode. You can do this with the volume buttons and the power button.

Connect your Samsung Galaxy S2 to the computer and run the ODIN files on your computer.

After hitting the PDA button, you may browse through to go to the file location of the downloaded kernel files.

I am still on Version 2.3 but hoping to upgrade this weekend. Good at computer and internet, phones not so much. A friend of mine has recently upgraded his samsung fairly new Galaxy S2 I9100 to 4.1 and it looks amazingly sharp. He also says the camera photos are sharper. I didnt realise software upgrades could enhance the phone so much otherwise I would have upgraded a long time ago. But since I’ve been persuaded I won’t end up with a plastic brick I will give it ago. Thanks for your advice. I was actually trying to find out if the upgrade is available in the UK yet.
